Saturday

The weekend is made for the great outdoors. Saturday, in particular, is the day to pitch the masks of gentle society and do what you would do if you didn’t have to do what you have to do.

I’m tired of this dirty old city.
Entirely too much work and never enough play.
And I’m tired of these dirty old sidewalks.
Think I’ll walk off my steady job today.

We all have days like that. Weeks. Months. Life is too short to hate your job. But in the real world we all too often end up not doing good but good enough.

Turn me loose, set me free, somewhere in the middle of Montanna.
And gimme all I got comin’ to me,
And keep your retirement and your so called social security.
Big City turn me loose and set me free.

Memorial Day weekend I used to take off for somewhere in the middle of Montana. Then when I lived in Montana I would take off for the middle of the desert. These days I’m more likely to be sitting at a little league diamond than working a trout stream or hiking a slot canyon. Still, we all have to leave behind the Big City now and then, just turn ourselves loose and set ourselves free.

Been working everyday since I was twenty.
Haven’t got a thing to show for anything I’ve done.
There’s folks who never work and they’ve got plenty.
Think it’s time some guys like me had some fun.

We might not do it ourselves, but we can’t help but sing along with Merle come Saturday.

Big City turn me loose and set me free.
