Tornado season is upon us in the Upper Midwest. We’ve been pretty dry and cool this spring… until I went camping. It’s been raining here ever since.
There were 23 Tornado Reports nationwide yesterday (17.06.2009), according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center. Fortunately the more active thunderstorms have jumped over my community so far, but they have not left the region untouched as you can see in the video. Austin, where it was filmed, is located on I-90 south of the Twin Cities. There were also tornadoes reported at Waseca and Blooming Prairie.
NOAA’s All Hazard Monitor summarizes the outlook for a variety of natural hazards, from air quality to winter weather. Hopefully I don’t have to worry about blizzards in Minnesota this time of year. In Montana, yes, but not Minnesota. The links for Severe Storms are a quick review of everything you didn’t know you needed to now about tornadoes, lightning, hail, flash floods, and more fun and interesting weather events.
Minnesota’s Code Ready website also has some good info on severe weather. Their theme:
- Get Informed
- Be Prepared
- Get Connected
Sounds good to me.
